About Eduardo Cerqueira
I’ve always been driven by curiosity and the desire to understand how things work — and then figure out how to make them better. My career has given me the opportunity to work across many sides of software engineering, from writing and shipping code to designing systems, solving complex problems, building quality and delivery processes, and leading technical teams.
My foundation is in software engineering and the full software development lifecycle. I’ve worked hands-on with multiple programming languages and technologies, while also spending years designing distributed systems, improving engineering practices, and leading teams through complex and high-pressure situations. I enjoy moving between the technical details and the bigger picture, whether that means debugging a difficult problem, making an architectural decision, or helping a team find a better way forward.
I’m naturally analytical and a design thinker. I like breaking complex problems into simpler pieces, looking at them from different perspectives, and finding practical solutions. I’m also comfortable learning something completely new when the problem requires it. For me, technology has never been about mastering a fixed list of tools — it’s about continuously learning, experimenting, and understanding enough to build the right solution.
My path has taken me from hands-on engineering and open source, through Principal-level technical work and engineering management at Red Hat, to senior engineering leadership at IBM, and ultimately to co-founding Aletyx, where I now have the opportunity to combine engineering, product, operations, business, and customer perspectives every day.
At Aletyx, being a co-founder and Head of Engineering means wearing many hats. It requires technical depth, creativity, commitment, customer focus, decision-making under pressure, and the willingness to get involved wherever the company needs me. I enjoy that. Building something from the ground up has reinforced something I’ve learned throughout my career: the ability to learn, adapt, and solve problems is often more valuable than knowing the answer before you start.
I care about building things that are useful, reliable, secure, and built to last — but I also care about the people behind them. Technology is ultimately about solving problems for people, and that perspective has shaped how I approach engineering, leadership, products, and business.
Open source has been an important part of that journey as well, giving me a way to learn, contribute, collaborate, and give back to the communities that helped shape my career.
I’m bilingual in English and Portuguese, and I remain curious about what’s next — not because I have a fixed destination in mind, but because there is always something new to learn, build, understand, or improve.
